Hair Restoration Q & A

This may seem like a silly question, but hair loss happens gradually for most people and may go unnoticed for an extended period of time. Hair loss treatments are most effective when initiated in the first five years, so it is important to start treatment early. The average scalp is covered with 100,000 hair follicles. Most people lose between 50-100 hairs a day, but a consistent loss of 150 hairs or more a day is considered significant hair loss. Have you noticed more hair on your pillow, more strands on your brush or comb, more hair in the drain, or sunburn on your scalp? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, it’s time to treat your thinning hair, and the experts at Shea Aesthetic Clinic are here to help!

A combination of hereditary hair loss factors, hormone activity, and age result in a shortening of the hair growth cycle and gradual shrinking of hair follicles. Each hair growth cycle produces a shorter, finer, much-less-visible hair. In time, some follicles become incapable of producing visible hair.

Shea Aesthetic’s hair restoration program combines in-office Platelet enhanced plasma injections with an at-home hair care regimen to provide the best possible results. Your in-office Platelet Enhanced Plasma treatments are done monthly for the first 4 months, followed by one treatment every 3 months. Your at-home regimen consists of low-level laser light therapy (Theradome® cap) twice weekly, daily topical medication (Minoxidil), as well as daily topical and nutritional supplements (VotesseTM).

Platelet Enhanced Plasma therapy for hair loss is a three-step medical treatment in which your blood is drawn, spun down in a machine that spins rapidly to separate the Platelet Enhanced Plasma from the white and the red blood cells, and is then injected into the scalp. Platelets promote healing because they contain growth factors. These factors act on stem cells in hair follicles to help them grow thicker hairs and to stimulate the development of new hair follicles. The result of Platelet Enhanced Plasma in the scalp is increased thickness and number of hairs.

The Theradome® cap is used twice a week for 20 minutes in the comfort of your own home. Similar to the skin’s ability to absorb light energy from the sun and turn it into vitamin D, the Theradome® laser light energy is absorbed at the base of the hair follicle, stimulating cells to prolong the growth phase while shortening the resting and shedding phases. This process halts hair loss and accelerates the birth of new, healthy hair follicles resulting in fuller, thicker, more lustrous and manageable hair.

Votesse™ is a comprehensive, two-part hair health system for men & women composed of an oral Nutraceutical and a Topical Hair Health System. They contain antioxidants, multi-vitamins and probiotics that address the wellness of your scalp from the inside out.

Minoxidil is a daily topical foam that helps to restore inactive hair follicles and increase protein production to lengthen your hair’s active growth phase. It also contains an alpha-hydroxy acid to promote natural skin exfoliation to help keep your hair follicles open and your scalp primed for treatment.

  • The amount of hair regrowth depends on each individual and can vary significantly. This treatment is most effective for individuals that have experienced hair loss no more than 5 years.
  • It takes about 6 weeks to start seeing new growth. In that time, you will also notice an improvement in the overall health of the hair.
  • To get optimal results, it is recommended that you have Platelet Enhanced Plasma treatments done monthly for the first 4 months, followed by one treatment every 3 months for a total of one year.
  • The most effective and thus the main treatment for hair loss at Shea Aesthetic Clinic is Platelet Enhanced Plasma injections, however, the best results will come from consistent use of Platelet Enhanced Plasma, low-level laser light therapy (Theradome® cap), topical and oral nutritional supplementation (Votesse™), and the use of the topical medication, Minoxidil.
